Microneedling

Microneedling

Microneedling (also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy) is a type of treatment that uses small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. These small contact points encourage the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect. It can also help tackle other skin damage such as scarring, stretch marks, dark marks, sun damage and ageing.

FAQs

  • Am I suitable for this treatment?

Microneedling is safe for almost anyone. The only contraindications are for those who currently have acne, infections, or wound-healing issues. I will go through everything in detail during your consultation.

  • Is it safe?

The procedure is considered to be very safe.

  • Does it hurt?

Microneedling works by creating microscopic punctures in the skin. While it is not overly painful, it can be uncomfortable when targeting the deeper dermis. Our practitioners use a topical numbing cream which makes the treatment a lot more comfortable. Some patients say they do not feel the need for the numbing cream if a more superficial treatment is recommended. If you are used to the treatment, it can even be a relaxing experience.

  • What can I expect after the treatment?

Directly after treatment, initial skin tightening and pore reduction can be seen immediately. However, you won’t see your final Microneedling results until at least four to six weeks post-treatment. Both collagen and elastin production are accelerated, but it still takes your body time to produce new, strong, healthy collagen.

  • Are there any side effects or risks?

As long as Microneedling is done properly, the only common side effects that you may experience are redness, dryness and mild inflammation. On occasion, you may experience some mild swelling, pinpoint bleeding and skin irritation which will normally subside in 24-48 hours.
